The Story

This cave temple was reclaimed from the jungle in the last century after many years of neglect. It is situated about 15 kilometers from Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. According to the Mahavamsa, the Buddha rested for a day inside this cave after his visit to Sumanakuta, leaving Sri Pada. The cave can shelter a large number of people and has a magnificent view of Sumanakuta. Buddhist devotees classify this cave temple as a relic of use because the Buddha specifically chose it as a place to visit.
